MILAN – In the evening match of the 31st matchday, following Roma’s win against Inter, the Rossoneri fail to take advantage of teh chance to decrease the gap from the top. A Milan side without too many players finds it tough to have the better of a Lazio side who is well placed on the pitch. Following the goal scored by Borriello from the penalty spot, Lichsteiner responds in the final part of the first half. In the second half a generous and determined Milan fails to score.
Bad luck can be the only way of reading tonight’s game which could have awareded other satisfactions. The fact that nine players were unavailable in this part of the season, explains the difficulties Milan faced again st Lazio. Against the Rossoneri, Edy Reja’s side, who conceaded 32 goals in Serie A, is almost impossible to penetrate if you cannot count on Pato, Ronaldinho, Pirlo, Mancini and the rest.
It’s not the Roman formation who controls that game, Rocchi and team-mates limit themselves to counter attack, being careful not to allow any spaces. Milan without fantasy forces Clarence Seedorf to think about the moves and Lazio presses onb the Dutch player.
However, Milan ion the 18tgh miunute takes the lead. Kolarov brings Flamini down inside the penalty area and for the referee Tagliavento it’s a penalty. From the spot Borriello scores the 1-0.
After the Rossoneri’s lead, Lazio increases the pressure. The counter attacks of the capital city side are quick and dangerous, and Lazio pushes with conviction, enabling them to deservedly equalize in the 32nd minute. Antonini fails to clear and after a double rebound, the ball ends at Lichtsteiner who scores.
Milan put effort and anger in the second half, dspite the many injured players. The Rossoneri push forward and in the 9th minute Antonini hits the bar after going past a few Lazio players. However, Milan tries with great pride to break through and almost scores in the 21st minute. The great work by Antonini who passes to Inzaghi: Pippo crosses towards the small penalty area where Borriello goes round and with a volley sends the ball high.
LAzio responds with Dias who troubles Dida with a right footer in front of goal which ends high. The force of the desperation pushes Leonardo to take off Inzaghi for the debut of Zigoni. Space also for Jankulovski instad of Zambrotta. However, the tiredness does not allow the players to reason things out and Abbiati loses sharpness in the 37th minute to shoot towards an empty net. Seedorf’s moves forwards are useless towards the end, despite his effort. Milan was lacking the missing players and luck.
